Two window cleaners were rescued after being stranded 69 stories up the side of a New York skyscraper

Two window washers were trapped dangling 69 stories up 1 World Trade Center in New York, after their scaffolding broke around 1 p.m.

Rescue workers were quick to respond.

Around 2:15 p.m., the two workers were pulled to safety by firefighters, who cut a hole in one of the building's glass windows, reports the Associated Press.

Buzzfeed has a timeline of the ordeal here.

Cleaning windows is no easy task, as this video from the New York Times documents. Though window cleaners take great pains to tether themselves safely to the buildings they scale, the job isn't without risks, as today's incident proved.
