Thor: Ragnarok just got a little stranger.
In a new international trailer for the upcoming Marvel film, which hits theaters this November, Doctor Strange appears to give the Norse god of thunder a peculiar warning. “I sense a great change in your future,” warns the Benedict Cumberbatch character. “Destiny has dire plans for you, my friend.”
Strange seems to be foreshadowing the appearance of Cate Blanchett’s Hela, the goddess of death, her siege on Asgard, and the absolute chaos she’s about to wreak on the Marvel universe.
“I have dire plans for destiny,” Thor responds.
Strange’s appearance in the trailer is the first time we’ve seen the character in the promotional materials for the movie. The previous trailers released in the US have been Strange-free.
Though Thor and Doctor Strange shared a post-credits scene at the end of Doctor Strange, it was unclear how much of a role Doctor Strange would play in Thor’s next great adventure, if any. It’s still unclear whether Strange’s role in Ragnarok extends beyond this cameo, but it’s fun to know that he’s giving the god of thunder some mystical arts advisement; judging from the wrath that Hela is bringing, Thor needs all the help he can get.
Thor: Ragnarok comes out in theaters on November 3, 2017.
