Watch: Hillary Clinton joins Seth Meyers to help out with “Jokes Seth Can’t Tell”

On the anniversary of the election, Meyers and his writers let Clinton deliver some very specific punchlines.

One of the most distinctive and fun recurring segments on Late Night with Seth Meyers is "Jokes Seth Can't Tell," in which the host turns over punchline duty to two of his writers, Amber Ruffin and Jenny Hagel. The bit is so-named because Meyers, as he explains to his audience before every new edition, is a “straight white male” who probably shouldn’t be making the lesbian jokes that Hagel (a lesbian) loves, or delivering lines like “a black restaurant is like a white restaurant, except it’s a Popeye’s,” which Ruffin (who’s black) can tell with a devilish grin that makes it clear she’s in on the joke, not the butt of it.

But on November 8, none other than Hillary Clinton joined Hagel and Ruffin to relieve Meyers of making jokes specific to her, a woman who lost the presidency to Donald Trump exactly one year ago.

“According to a recent article, chardonnay is making a comeback,” Meyers said to set up the incoming quip.

“And they said I wouldn’t be able to create jobs,” Clinton replied, laughing.

Next up: “The retractable roof on Atlanta’s NFL stadium is not working properly,” Meyers said, at which point Clinton faux-scoffed and replied, “Well, at least that ceiling’s broken.”

But for my money, the best joke of the segment by a long shot was the last, if only because I couldn’t see the punchline coming from a mile away.

“According to a recent report,” Meyers began, “koalas may be extinct by 2040.”

“And according to Fox News,” said Clinton, “that’s my fault.”
