Previously, she was a longtime features reporter covering trends, race, youth culture, and the zeitgeist at the Washington Post; and a METPRO fellow at Newsday and the Orlando Sentinel. She is a professor of writing and reporting at George Washington University and a graduate of the University of Texas and Northwestern University.
