Virginia results for every midterm race

Virginia’s US House races are crucial for Democrats’ goals to spur a so-called blue wave. Capturing a number of the state’s contested seats will be vital as the party tries to rack up wins to build its House majority.

Virginia is also a state where women candidates dominated the Democratic primaries earlier this year, with many of them set to go head-to-head against Republican incumbents. Elaine Luria in the Second District and Abigail Spanberger in the Seventh are on the Democrats’ “red to blue” list, meaning flipping these seats is a priority for the party.

The fight over Rep. Barbara Comstock’s seat in the 10th District — which Hillary Clinton won — is also expected to be particularly fiery given that she’s one of the most endangered Republican incumbents in the country. Democrat Jennifer Wexton has proven a strong challenger.

Democratic Sen. Tim Kaine is up for reelection as well, though he isn’t expected to see much of a challenge from Republican Corey Stewart — who’s become more known for his ties to white nationalists. Some observers have even suggested that Stewart will hurt races down-ballot given his extremist associations.

A set of tax exemptions are among the ballot measures set to be considered by voters. Virginia’s statehouse is only on the ballot in odd-numbered years.

Though Virginia used to be considered a purple state, it’s been leaning blue recently. That’s reflected in Trump’s approval numbers, which show a 45 approval-50 disapproval split per Morning Consult.
