New York City is a town of devoted cinephiles, and the New York Film Festival is the most anticipated event on the year’s movie calendar. Hosted by the Film Society of Lincoln Center, the NYFF includes world and New York premieres alongside films that made waves at the year’s most important festivals, including Cannes, Berlin, Sundance, and Toronto. It’s one of the longest-running and most prestigious festivals in the United States.
The 56th edition of the festival takes place September 28-October 14, 2018. It will open with Yorgos Lanthimos’s The Favourite and close with Julian Schnabel’s At Eternity’s Gate, with Alfonso Cuaron’s Roma as centerpiece. The main slate includes films like Frederick Wiseman’s Monrovia, Indiana, the Coen brothers’ The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, Alex Ross Perry’s Her Smell, Claire Denis’s High Life, Barry Jenkins’s If Beale Street Could Talk, and Cannes Palme d’Or winner Shoplifters.
