BuzzFeed founder and CEO Jonah Peretti: Watch the full interview

Peretti is onstage at Recode’s Code Media conference.

BuzzFeed founder and CEO Jonah Peretti will be live from Recode’s Code Media conference in Huntington Beach, Calif., on Monday, Feb. 12, at 8 pm PT / 11 pm ET.

Peretti, who helped Arianna Huffington launch The Huffington Post in 2005, started his next viral content play, BuzzFeed, in 2006. The company has gone on to pioneer the mix of breaking news, entertainment and shareable content that so many others have copied.

But now “the media is in crisis,” Peretti says, arguing that Facebook and Google have distorted the media ecosystem by hoovering up most of the digital ad revenue and putting “high-quality creators at a financial disadvantage.”

Last year, BuzzFeed missed its revenue goals and laid off some employees, and since then, the head of its news group has spoken with potential investors about spinning out the news operation.

Update: If you’d prefer to listen to the interview as a podcast, you can find it on Recode Media with Peter Kafka, or in the embedded audio player, below:
