Watch: Steven Spielberg’s ‘Ready Player One’ trailer released at Comic-Con

We’re ready.

The long-awaited first trailer to “Ready Player One” was released today at San Diego’s Comic-Con. Based on the 2011 Ernest Cline novel of the same name, the movie follows Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan) as he tries to navigate a dystopian future in which life has become so dismal that many choose to escape through an online world called the OASIS (Ontologically Anthropocentric Sensory Immersive Simulation). Think of it as Facebook crossed with World of Warcraft, but with a lot more VR.

Wade is participating in a video game contest created by OASIS founder James Halliday (Mark Rylance), a quirky, recently deceased tech billionaire. The prize is Halliday’s fortune and control over the future of the OASIS. The movie, like the book, is full of simulated action and old-school video game references.

The movie will be out March 30, 2018.
