Bernie Sanders “sickened” by Scalise shooting, reportedly conducted by former campaign volunteer

The alleged shooter who wounded Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) and at least four others at the Republican congressional baseball practice Wednesday morning has been identified by multiple media outlets as James T. Hodgkinson.

And per a report by the Washington Post’s Robert Costa, Hodgkinson volunteered for Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) during last year’s presidential campaign, according to a fellow volunteer.

Now Sanders has released a statement saying he’s been informed that the alleged shooter “apparently” volunteered for him. The statement continues, “I am sickened by this despicable act.”

Sanders goes on: “I condemn this action in the strongest possible terms. Real change can only come about through nonviolent action, and anything else runs against our most deeply held American values.”
