We know Silicon Valley has a serious lack of diversity. But measuring the problem, and measuring solutions to the problem, is harder to do. That’s where Stephanie Lampkin comes in.

The MIT and Stanford graduate has taken a quantitative approach to sharing and mediating the bias in the hiring process at tech companies. Her company, Blendoor, builds software that measures recruiter and interviewer bias against underrepresented groups in tech.

This year, her team launched their inaugural BlendScore report, an audit of 161 tech companies that assigns a numerical score based on their equity in the hiring process. The report has caught the attention of top executives at companies like Facebook, Google and HP, which have been using it to help measure where they stand relative to their industry peers.
