Kylie Jenner’s makeup company used social media to generate $420 million in sales

Jenner is No. 40 on the Recode 100.

Kylie Jenner is the youngest member of the Kardashian-Jenner clan, and the personality that powers the eighth-most popular Instagram account in the world. She’s a million followers away from the 100 million mark.

The 20-year-old is also the CEO of Kylie Cosmetics, which has its own impressive numbers. She says it has generated $420 million in retail sales in its first 18 months.

It’s all coming together: Jenner uses her Instagram to promote and sell her cosmetics as well as her other business ventures, which include a clothing line with her sister Kendall Jenner — called Kendall + Kylie — and subscription content through a personally branded mobile app.
