Watch Adam Scott crush a Meg Ryan trivia contest in front of the lady herself

Constance Grady is a senior correspondent on the Culture team for Vox, where since 2016 she has covered books, publishing, gender, celebrity analysis, and theater.

Adam Scott is a bigger Meg Ryan fan than you are.

"Well, that’s not fair," you might be thinking. "I grew up on When Harry Met Sally, and You’ve Got Mail made me believe in love."

Sure, fine, but have you ever won a Meg Ryan trivia contest in front of the lady herself?

Scott and Ryan both visited The Late Late Show With James Corden Monday night, and Corden challenged Scott to show off his Meg Ryan knowledge.

"You’ve got sort of a crazy film trivia mind, haven’t you?" Corden said. "You know a lot."

"Well, I don’t want to brag, James, Meg," said the ever-modest Scott, "but yeah."

The challenge: to put some of Ryan’s most memorable films into chronological order by release date — child’s play for a Meg Ryan savant like Scott.

"That would start with When Harry Met Sally," Scott proclaimed, counting off on his fingers as Ryan watched in astonishment. "Then we would go to Sleepless in Seattle, then we would go to When a Man Loves a Woman, and we would wrap it up with You’ve Got Mail."

"If only I’d known that," said Ryan, who never watches her own movies.

"Shut the front door," Corden said in shock.

"Do you watch things you do?" Ryan asked Scott, her biggest fan.

"I’m not Meg Ryan," Scott explained. "I’ve never been in anything that good."

There are doubtless Parks and Rec and Party Down fans out there who will take issue with that claim, but you’ll have to take it up with the man himself. Just be sure you’re on top of your trivia first.
