Donald Trump is closing in on Hillary Clinton in the latest ABC News/Washington Post poll, which shows Republicans lining up behind their bombastic candidate.
The presumptive Republican presidential nominee is in a statistical dead heat with his likely Democratic opponent among the registered voters polled — 46 percent for Trump, 44 percent for Clinton. That falls within the poll's 3.5-point margin of error, meaning that the race is technically too close to call at this point.

But Twitter isn't exactly a place for nuance. Thousands of people have been tweeting: "Trump 46%," which was among the day's trending topics.
Not headline, and takes 219 words to get there. New WAPO poll reveals Trump leads Clinton among registered voters 46 percent to 44 percent.
