Fox News's Republican debate seemed like it had everything, from jokes about Donald Trump's penis to some semblance of policy discussion. But toward the end of the debate, Americans also got some tips on relaxation — and Marco Rubio's funniest remark yet.
First, some context: Earlier in the night, when Trump was asked about some of his past policy shifts, he said, "I have a very strong core. But I've never seen a successful person who wasn't flexible." He went on to repeatedly praise the virtue of flexibility.
Then, later in the night, when Trump attempted to interrupt Ted Cruz, this happened:
Cruz: Breathe, breathe, breathe.
Trump: I am, Ted.
Cruz: You can do it. You can breathe. I know it's hard. I know it's hard. But just —
Rubio: When they're done with the yoga, can I answer a question?
Cruz: You cannot — I really hope that you don't see yoga on this stage.
Rubio: Well, he's very flexible, so you never know.
It may be a bit hard to believe, but it seems like Rubio, who was recently characterized as a robot for repeating the same lines over and over at a previous debate, landed the best off-the-cuff zinger of the night.
Will you support Vox’s explanatory journalism?
Most news outlets make their money through advertising or subscriptions. But when it comes to what we’re trying to do at Vox, there are a couple of big issues with relying on ads and subscriptions to keep the lights on:
First, advertising dollars go up and down with the economy. We often only know a few months out what our advertising revenue will be, which makes it hard to plan ahead.
Second, we’re not in the subscriptions business. Vox is here to help everyone understand the complex issues shaping the world — not just the people who can afford to pay for a subscription. We believe that’s an important part of building a more equal society. And we can’t do that if we have a paywall.
So even though advertising is still our biggest source of revenue, we also seek grants and reader support. (And no matter how our work is funded, we have strict guidelines on editorial independence.)
If you also believe that everyone deserves access to trusted high-quality information, will you make a gift to Vox today? Any amount helps.
