Watch: the new trailer for X-Men: Apocalypse shows off its mutant matchups

On Thursday, Fox released a new trailer for X-Men: Apocalypse, the last filmic chapter in its X-Men reboot trilogy. Like Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Captain America: Civil War, X-Men: Apocalypse will pit superpowered beings against one another — in this case, mutant against mutant. (In the comic books, most of the mutant characters who appear in this movie as villains are actually good guys.)

One of the biggest questions about Apocalypse is how Xavier's mutants — Cyclops, Jean Grey, Mystique, Beast, Nightcrawler, and Quicksilver — will stack up against Apocalypse's four horsemen (horse-people?): Psylocke, Magneto, Storm, and Angel. On paper, it's not really a fair fight since Xavier's team is a little young and a little green.

There's a taste of the matchup in this new trailer as we see the mutants going head to head. Storm () and Cyclops () have a fight scene, as do Nightcrawler () and Angel (). Psylocke () and Beast () are dueling too. From the trailer it's still a little hard to pinpoint how Jean Grey (), a cosmic powerhouse in the comic books, will factor in.

That leaves Mystique (), Charles Xavier (), Magneto (), and Apocalypse () — who also happen to be played by the movie's biggest stars — to tangle with each other.

X-Men: Apocalypse hits theaters on May 27.
