Vice CEO Shane Smith is the face of his company’s HBO show, but he says he won’t have the same kind of presence on Vice’s soon-to-be-launched cable TV channel, Viceland.
Talking with Re/code’s Kara Swisher and Peter Kafka onstage at the Code/Media conference at The Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel in Dana Point, Calif., Smith said that he was an “old man, rotund, verbose” and that he didn’t “want to be the face of our network.”
Smith’s response came in reply to a question from Peter Kafka over whether his agreement with HBO prevented him from participating in Viceland programming:
