“Star Wars” is back, again.

With “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” due out on Dec. 16, Lucasfilm (owned by Disney) is betting it can do for the space opera what Marvel Studios (also owned by Disney) has done for superhero films: Create a neverending franchise.

Separate from the main story of the Skywalker family, et al., “Rogue One” is a sort of spinoff, following mostly new characters in a time before 1977’s original “Star Wars” began.

Skipping over a 10-second “teaser preview” (really, Disney?), the first big look the world got at “Rogue One” was this two-minute teaser trailer, released in April:

At the annual “Star Wars” fan convention Celebration, held this summer in London, attendees got another big gulp of “Rogue One” and some behind-the-scenes footage:

Given that the movie is a set-up for the start of the original “Star Wars,” in which rebels have stolen the plans to the planet-destroying Death Star, some familiar faces are likely to pop up. The first official trailer dropped the big one: Darth Vader.

And the final theatrical trailer, while withholding any similarly big reveals, gave us a better glimpse of protagonist Jyn Erso’s backstory:

And if all of this isn’t enough, you can consume a steady drip of “Rogue One” ephemera on the “Star Wars” YouTube page.
