President Obama is addressing the nation this afternoon from the White House after Donald Trump was elected as his successor, bringing an end to what has been one of the most intense and disturbing presidential races in American history.

Both President Obama and Michelle Obama had campaigned hard for Hillary Clinton.

This morning, President Obama called Trump to congratulate him on the victory and invited him to meet Thursday to discuss a "smooth transition of power," according to a White House statement.

Clinton made her concession speech this morning at the New Yorker Hotel’s Grand Ballroom, which you can watch here.
