How does tech fix its diversity problem? Here’s 45 minutes of ideas.

The ideas come from more than a year’s worth of Recode Decode guests.

Normally, we devote each episode of Recode Decode, hosted by Kara Swisher to one key player from the tech and media world. But today, we’re trying something a bit different.

On this special bonus episode, we look back at the smartest and most important things our past guests from Recode Decode and Recode Media with Peter Kafka have said about diversity in tech and media. Diversity is a huge and complicated issue, and in the context of a longer conversation about a person’s career, earnest attempts at providing solutions may be overlooked.

Interviewees you’ll hear in this episode include investors like Chamath Palihapitiya and Aileen Lee; authors and media personalities like Dan Lyons, Samantha Bee and Antonio García-Martinez; and entrepreneurs like Dick Costolo, Stacy Brown-Philpot and Tristan Walker. They bring a range of differing opinions and stories about diversity to the table, and make it clear that it’s not just one thing: Discrimination might be based on sex, age, ethnicity or more, and sometimes multiple of the above.
