Politico co-founder Jim VandeHei is coming to Code Media in New York

He’ll tell us about his much-talked-about-but-unnamed startup.

Peter Kafka covers media and technology, and their intersection, at Vox. Many of his stories can be found in his Kafka on Media newsletter, and he also hosts the Recode Media podcast.

We’ve already told you about two great speakers coming to An Evening with Code Media, our tech-meets-media event in New York this month.

But we have room on the agenda for one more, so here he is: Jim VandeHei, the co-founder of Politico and current founder of a startup so new it doesn’t have an official name yet, will be joining us on Nov. 30.

If you read Recode, then you know why VandeHei is a big deal. But just in case: He’s one of two men responsible for creating Politico, a digital media company that completely upended the way political coverage works.

Now he’s creating a new company, using some of the same playbook: He wants to create high-end subscription services aimed at fields like health care, finance and tech (hey!).

There’s lots of interest around VandeHei’s plans and ambitions, so Kara Swisher and I are eager to ask him about it ourselves, onstage at the Steelcase Worklife Center, right off of Central Park in Manhattan.

And VandeHei’s presence means we’ll have three interesting people onstage with three very different ideas about how to run a media company in 2016: In addition to VandeHei and his subscription-only model, we’ll also hear from Turner’s John Martin (subscriptions + advertising) and BuzzFeed U.K. boss Janine Gibson (free, ad-supported content, available to anyone with an internet connection).

Smart, right? We think so, too.

So we hope you’ll join us on Wednesday, Nov. 30, for great conversation onstage, and great networking offstage. We have a few seats left, so you can sign up here. See you soon.
