The 22nd annual Screen Actors Guild Awards were held Saturday, January 30, in Los Angeles, California.

The night's big winner was Spotlight, the journalism drama about the Boston Globe's coverage of Catholic Church sex abuse scandals, which took home the prize for Best Ensemble Cast in a Motion Picture, generally considered the SAG Awards' closest equivalent to the Oscar for Best Picture.

The big individual winner was Idris Elba, who won two awards, the first time a single performer has won two awards for two different roles in the same night. He won the Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture prize for Beasts of No Nation and the Actor in a TV Movie or Miniseries award for Luther.

Other major prizes went to Leonardo DiCaprio for The Revenant and Brie Larson for Room. The top television cast awards went to the ensembles of Orange Is the New Black and Downton Abbey.

The nominations were led by the biopic Trumbo, which didn't win any major prizes.

The awards are handed out to both films and television series, and were broadcast on TBS and TNT. Early awards for stunt performers were handed out to Mad Max: Fury Road and Game of Thrones respectively. The remaining 13 awards were handed out on the televised ceremony.

The SAG Awards are often seen as a good predictor of success at the Oscars, which will occur in February. However, a number of Oscar nominees and frontrunners, including Creed's Sylvester Stallone, were not nominated here.
