Apple said more than 50 percent of its mobile devices are now using iOS 9, the fastest adoption rate ever.
“[iOS 9 is] on pace to be downloaded by more users than any other software release in Apple’s history,” Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide marketing, said in a statement.
Apple took extraordinary steps to ensure that its latest version of the software that powers iPhones and iPads would be safe to install, following the problematic introduction of iOS 8. There were scattered reports of issues, but nothing widespread.

The announcement comes as Apple prepares to release its new iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, which will be available at 8:00 am local time Friday. The phones will be available through mobile carriers AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless, as well as through authorized resellers
