IBM Buys Cloud Database Startup Compose

IBM has closed a deal to acquire Compose, a startup based in San Mateo, Calif., that offers database software as a cloud-based service. Financial terms were not disclosed. Compose — formerly known as MongoHQ — was a member of tech accelerator Y Combinator’s class of 2011 and had raised nearly $7 million in two rounds of funding from investors including Data Collective and Trinity Partners. IBM will make Compose part of its BlueMix cloud platform for software developers.
