Uber Co-Founder's Incubator Releases Spot, a Place Discovery App

Expa is an incubator started by Uber co-founder Garrett Camp. Friday it announced the beta version of a new product — an app called Spot that helps people find places to go, whether that’s restaurants and coffee shops or clothing stores and tourist destinations. It’s different from Foursquare or Yelp in that it uses data science to learn from the user’s behavior and, over time, surface places that are more relevant to their tastes. “It’s not just a design challenge, it’s a data challenge,” said Luke Groesbeck, the lead on the company. “We’re trying to do for the real world the same thing Google has done for the Web.”
