Fanatics, the Big Online Sports Retailer, Hires New CFO

Lauren Cooks Levitan, the co-founder of private equity firm Moxie Capital and a longtime equity analyst focused on retail, has joined online sports apparel seller Fanatics as its new CFO. She’ll be based in the San Francisco Bay Area, where CEO Doug Mack has been building up a company outpost since he took the helm last April. Levitan’s hire will likely add to industry speculation that Fanatics could be an IPO candidate over the next 18 months. Fanatics sells licensed sports apparel through Fanatics.com and the online shops of the four major American sports leagues. In the last six months, it has also expanded into running brick-and-mortar shops through deals with Nascar and the NBA.
