Here's Dick Costolo Saying His Job Was Safe Two Weeks Ago

Things change.

Two weeks ago on the stage of the Code Conference, Twitter CEO Dick Costolo said pretty flatly that his job was safe.

Not so much.

He told Peter Kafka and me in an interview at Code at end of May that despite persistent questions about his leadership, he was not worried about his job security.

“I don’t worry about that at all. The board and I are completely in sync. Believe me, I don’t worry about that at all,” said Costolo. “I think you have to have thick skin to be the CEO of any company, but this one particularly. You have to be resilient and be mentally tough and focus on what you’re going to focus on.”

In recent weeks, Costolo has acted as if that was so to me and others, insisting that he was there to stay. So did some board members, who met just last week to discuss this move.

Here’s what Costolo had to say two weeks ago. It’s a different story today.
