NPR put together a series of maps about the great number of ways it's legal for state governments to execute you if you're sentenced to such a fate. The hexagonally arranged visualizations are as engaging as they are alarming. Consider which states still allow death by hanging:

Who would have guessed that states like New Hampshire, Delaware, and Washington — better known for their love of the outdoors — would make up the hanging triumvirate of the United States?
The rest of the maps review electrocution, firing squads, lethal injection, and gas chambers. What does your state allow? Find out here.
Correction: This post included an erroneous reference to "death squads," which has been removed.
