Former Yahoo Executive Anand Chandrasekaran Leaving Airtel (Exclusive)

Chandrasekaran isn't coming back to Silicon Valley, though. He plans to do something entrepreneurial in India.

Anand Chandrasekaran, who left Yahoo to become product chief at Bharti Airtel, is stepping down from his post at the Indian carrier after only 13 months.

Chandrasekaran confirmed the move and said he plans to remain in India to do something entrepreneurial. His last day at Airtel will be June 10.

During his time at Airtel, the company launched music and mobile payments services, partnered with Xiaomi and Google and saw its mobile data business more than double, now accounting for 18 percent of the company’s $15 billion in annual revenue.

Chandrasekaran penned a piece for Re/code last year talking about the move from Silicon Valley to India and also spoke at Code/Mobile last year.
