The great speakers keep coming for the upcoming Code Conference, which takes place next week, and today we will have the final two slates to announce.
First up is the team that has whipped up one of this television season’s biggest hits, “Empire.” The Fox series about a music mogul and his very dramatic family has been the clear breakout winner of 2015, in terms of ratings and impact on culture. It’s also been a viral sensation across social media.
With the continued convergence of old media and new media, of digital and Hollywood, we thought it important to understand how the entertainment industry creates and sustains its shows and how it makes content live where consumers are.
Thus, we invited a range of those involved in the success of “Empire” to appear for an epic Wednesday evening panel.
That includes its star, Terrence Howard, who plays Lucious Lyon, the hip-hop mogul and the CEO of Empire Entertainment; its executive producer and famed television and movie mogul (in real life), Brian Grazer; creators Danny Strong and Lee Daniels; and executive producer and show runner Ilene Chaiken.
We hope together this group interview will paint a portrait of what it takes to create such a sensation and also about the state of the media as it changes as quickly as Cookie can throw some major insults.
As usual, the event — held May 26 to 28 in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif. — sold out quickly. But, as always, Re/code will be putting up extensive video clips of the interviews immediately and the entire sessions soon after.
We have one more fantastic and very topical session to announce later today, so stay tuned!
