DelBene will serve as executive VP of corporate strategy and planning, reporting to CEO Satya Nadella. DelBene left Microsoft in 2013 and served as an adviser to the U.S. secretary of health and human services, where he was tapped by President Obama to help fix Healthcare.gov.

Most recently he was a partner at Seattle-based Madrona Venture Group.

“His experience at Microsoft, recent work on Healthcare.gov, and work with startups here in Seattle give him a unique perspective for this new role,” Nadella said.

DelBene is married to U.S. Rep. (and former Microsoft executive) Suzan DelBene.
