Watch: President Obama reads mean tweets on Jimmy Kimmel Live

Emily St. James was a senior correspondent for Vox, covering American identities. Before she joined Vox in 2014, she was the first TV editor of the A.V. Club.

President Obama dropped by ABC's late-night talk show Jimmy Kimmel Live Thursday night. He and the host joked about Area 51 and the president's supposed Kenyan origins. They talked about the protests in Ferguson —referencing the recent Department of Justice report, Obama condemned what he called "a disregard for what law enforcement is supposed to do." But he also warned that whoever shot the police officers in Ferguson were "criminals," and "there was no excuse for criminal acts."

In a less serious moment, Obama also took part in the show's most enduring recurring feature — and one of the best ongoing late-night sketches currently running — "Celebrities Read Mean Tweets."

Watch above. It's worth it for the look he gives right before he says, "Thanks, Obama."
