Wedding Planning Site WeddingWire Buys Spanish Competitor for More Than $50 Million

Jason Del Rey has been a business journalist for 15 years and has covered Amazon, Walmart, and the e-commerce industry for the last decade. He was a senior correspondent at Vox.

WeddingWire, a site that helps couples plan weddings and features reviews of wedding vendors, has acquired Spain-based competitor Wedding Planner SL in a deal the companies are valuing at more than $50 million, according to a person familiar with the deal.

Cash made up about half of the deal, this person said, but since WeddingWire is private the value of its stock is relative. Wedding Planner SL operates a similar site called Bodas.net, which targets couples in Spain and Latin America. The businesses did more than $50 million combined in revenue in 2014 and were both profitable.
