Livestreaming app Periscope, which was acquired by Twitter in January and then launched in March, has been dubbed Apple’s “App of the Year” for 2015.
It’s not entirely clear what factors into the “App of the Year” decision — we’ve asked Apple for more clarity and will let you know what we hear — but it’s a nice win for Twitter nonetheless. The company has had a tumultuous year fraught with executive turnover, product issues and a defeated stock price. But Twitter and its executive team have routinely pointed to Periscope as a bright spot and claim it’s an important part of its product plan moving forward. Public kudos from Apple should reinforce that narrative.
Periscope CEO Kayvon Beykpour was onstage at Re/code’s annual Code conference back in May. You can listen to that interview here.
