Twitter General Counsel Vijaya Gadde Also Pulls Double Duty, Named Permanent Comms Head

Twitter's exec team is taking shape.

Turns out Jack Dorsey isn’t the only Twitter executive that’ll be holding down two jobs.

Vijaya Gadde, Twitter’s General Counsel for the past two years, has taken the company’s Director of Communications role as well. Gadde has been leading comms at the company since mid-July when Gabriel Stricker was pushed out, but her appointment is now permanent and was announced to the company during the Twitter’s weekly Tea Time meeting Monday afternoon.

Gadde will continue to serve as General Counsel and will report directly to CEO Jack Dorsey, a spokesperson confirmed.

Twitter’s executive team has really started to take shape over the past 24 hours. Interim CEO Jack Dorsey’s was named the permanent CEO this morning, and longtime revenue boss Adam Bain was named COO at the same time. Anthony Noto will remain CFO, and as Re/code reported last week, will report directly to Dorsey.

The comms appointment is an important one for Twitter, as some close to the company (including investor Chris Sacca) believe that the company has “failed to tell its own story.” Dorsey has a reputation as an internal motivator with the ability to convey a longterm vision for Twitter, but that hasn’t always been presented as clearly to outsiders. Figuring out the best way to do that will be one of Gadde’s greatest challenges in the new role.
