Desperate or Genius? The PC Industry Bands Together on Ad Push.

The industry is looking to combat sluggish sales with an ad campaign highlighting how different computers are today from years' past.

How sluggish are PC sales?

Well, it’s bad enough that Intel and Microsoft are banding together with three other PC makers to help explain why consumers even need a new computer.

As first reported by Re/code, the ad campaign “PC Does What?” will consist of TV, online and print ads in the U.S. and China.

Those two markets were chosen because they are the largest, accounting for half of PC sales, according to Intel marketing chief Steve Fund. The effort is initially planned to last six weeks, Fund said.

“This is all about waking people up and showing them how far we have come collectively,” Microsoft marketing chief Chris Capossela said.

The upside is it could help people become more aware of what Windows 10 and the latest computers can do. However, the industry also runs the risk of sounding desperate.
