Samsung Hires Designer Who Headed Jony Ive's Old London Firm

How ironic is this? Samsung’s newly appointed chief designer and Apple’s vice president of design share a pedigree. Lee Don-tae, who was tapped earlier this month to oversee Samsung Electronics’ design centers around the world, previously served as co-president of Tangerine. That’s the London-based design firm co-founded by Apple’s Jony Ive, who oversaw the look of the iPhone and iPad (two devices at the center of the companies’ gigantic patent dispute). Samsung expects Lee to bring Tangerine’s design sensibilities to the company as Ive did at Apple, according to Korean press accounts. At least this design initiative won’t land the two competing tech giants in court.
