The company won't say how many of the smartwatches it has sold, however.

Motorola said Friday that it had sold out of the initial supply of Moto 360 watches offered online.

“Moto 360 is currently sold out online, but we are working hard to replenish stock,” the company said in a statement to Re/code. “Availability may be limited for a while due to high demand.”

The company declined to say how many of the devices it has sold; the $249 round Android Wear smartwatch went on sale earlier on Friday.

Motorola said that consumers can register in its website to be notified when it is back in stock.

The watch will also be headed to all Best Buy retail stores by Sept. 14 and is being sold on that retailer’s website as well as via the Google Play store. The watch is also listed as sold out at Best Buy’s website.

Update: A BestBuy representative said that “customer interest was high” as soon as the Moto 360 went on sale on BestBuy.com. The retailer is allowing customers to reserve a watch at their local store by putting a $25 deposit in the form of a gift card. The card can then be used to buy the Moto 360 once it is available.

Motorola has also said it will add additional carriers and retail partners later this year.
