Best Buy Hopes Designer iPhone Accessories Will Bring More Women to Its Stores

The store is adding exclusive accessories from fashion names Nanette Lepore, Anna Sui and Isaac Mizrahi.

Best Buy

Aiming to woo more women into its stores, Best Buy plans later on Wednesday to introduce a series of exclusive accessory lines from designers Nanette Lepore, Anna Sui and Isaac Mizrahi.

The three collections will debut in Best Buy stores on Oct. 5 and include tablet, laptop and smartphone cases. It’s the largest step so far in the company’s bid to cater to female tech buyers.

“Our customers tell us that they want style and the ability to change their tech accessories much like they change their other accessories,” Best Buy accessories VP Mary Ortizcazarin told Re/code in a statement. “We think the collections will allow women to see Best Buy in a new way and reflect their fashion sense through their tech devices.”

Best Buy has been struggling amid increased online competition, with both store traffic and sales on the decline.

Phone cases in the designer series will sell for $30, while laptop and iPad cases will fetch as much as $40. The line will debut with phone cases for the iPhone 5 and Samsung Galaxy S5, with iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus cases coming in mid-October.

Lapore and Sui are donating their share of sales to the Council of Fashion Designers of America — a trade group that supports scholarships and other educational efforts in the fashion industry.
