Facebook's Sheryl Sandberg Stars in Her Own Comic Book

Sandberg will be featured Thursday as part of a biographical comic book series.

Sheryl Sandberg has another title to add to her resume: Comic book star.

The Facebook COO is the lead in her own comic book — “Female Force: Sheryl Sandberg” — scheduled for release Thursday. The comic serves as a short, 32-page biography of Sandberg’s life as an author and businesswoman, according to its iTunes description. It was created by Bluewater Productions as part of a series of biographical comics from the publisher that include other well known and respected female leaders, including Michelle Obama, Mother Teresa and Hillary Clinton, and retails for $3.99.

Sandberg herself hadn’t known about the comic’s existence until very recently, according to a person familiar with the matter, even though it had been peeped back in April and was supposed to hit stores in June. Bluewater decided to push back the release date to better space out the Female Force series, according to Darren Davis, Bluewater’s publisher.

It’s also unclear exactly how much of Sandberg’s life the comic’s author, Michael L. Frizell, can include in 32 pages (we’ll have to wait until Thursday!), but we do know from the preview that the comic includes scenes from Sandberg’s 2012 commencement speech at Harvard, where she received undergrad and graduate degrees in the early ’90s.

There are also cameos by Sandberg’s husband, SurveyMonkey CEO David Goldberg, and, of course, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, who hired Sandberg from Google in 2008.

She won’t be the only Silicon Valley tech luminary hitting comic book stores this fall. Bluewater’s upcoming comics feature an entire cast of famous tech CEOs and founders, including Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Sergey Brin, Larry Page, Jack Dorsey and Zuckerberg himself.
