Microsoft confirmed Tuesday it had hired former Qualcomm executive Peggy Johnson to head up business development.
Re/code broke the news last week that Johnson was leaving Qualcomm for a post at Microsoft.
Johnson, who will start Sept. 1, will be executive VP of global business development, reporting to CEO Satya Nadella.
In the newly created role, she will head up various strategic deals, including relationships with partners, key accounts and device makers.
Johnson spent 24 years at Qualcomm in a range of roles, most recently heading global marketing and Qualcomm Labs.
With Johnson’s hiring, Executive VP Eric Rudder will give up the business development duties but remain in charge of advanced strategy, reporting to Nadella.
In one other change, Steve Guggenheimer will continue to lead the developer outreach efforts, but that unit will now report up through COO Kevin Turner.
