The Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals on Wednesday refused to stay its previous decision striking down Virginia's ban on same-sex marriages. If the US Supreme Court doesn't reverse the federal appeals court's denial, same-sex marriages in Virginia could start on August 21.*

In recent months, the Supreme Court has put decisions on hold as they work through the appeals process. It's likely the nation's highest court will take the same action in this case.
