Where you can (maybe) buy marijuana in Washington today

Today is a big day for marijuana legalization in the US: Washington became the second state to officially allow retail sales.

There are currently 25 stores licensed to sell marijuana but, in part due to a pot shortage, only five expect to open today.

The Washington State Liquor Control Board handed out pot shop licenses through a lottery system, with each part of the state receiving a certain number of slots. Seattle, for example, was allotted 21 retail licenses, but only one store — Cannabis City, which is expected to open at noon — was ready to open on day one.

Some of the stores are also facing other problems beyond the marijuana shortage. 2020 Solutions in Bellingham, for instance, expected to open today, but it delayed its opening after supply deliveries hit "regulatory snags."
