Twitter Joins the Deep Learning Party

Twitter has acquired MadBits, a New York startup using “deep learning” to help computers “understand” images. Facebook and Google have also shown interest in this promising approach to artificial intelligence, hiring New York University professor Yann LeCun and purchasing DeepMind, respectively. MadBits announced the deal on its site but didn’t disclose terms. Twitter declined to comment.
