Higher-Brow Viral Media Site Ozy Gets to 3 Million Uniques a Month

Bring on the Rhodes Scholars.

Ozy — an internationally focused, higher-brow viral news site — reports it has reached three million unique monthly visitors since launching last fall with backers like Laurene Powell Jobs, Larry Sonsini, Ron Conway and Dan Rosensweig, who pulled together a $5.3 million seed round.

Carlos Watson, founder, TV personality and one of People Magazine 2004’s “Hottest Bachelors,” is hoping the site’s political and intellectual fare will appeal to a well-educated international set (yesterday’s headlines: “Churchill Was Far From Perfect,” “Coffee’s Islamic History,” “Fascinating Nonfiction Films”). And he’s even hired a preponderance of Rhodes Scholar contributors like Stephanie Bell and Libby Longino to make it happen.
