Sprint will begin selling Google Apps for Business to small- and medium-sized firms, as the wireless carrier seeks to bolster its business services group.
The carrier will sell Google’s suite of cloud-based applications — including Gmail, Google Docs and Google Drive storage — to firms looking to equip their mobile workers with the software they need to work remotely.
Firms that buy Google’s software through Sprint can take advantage of the carrier’s support services for their employees.
“We provide 24/7 end-user call services, which you can’t get from Google today,” said Mike Fitz, Sprint Business’s vice president of business solution commercialization. “That’s a significant value and reason why you’d want to buy from someone like Sprint.”
Sprint is following in the footsteps of SoftBank, the Japanese mobile communications giant that owns a controlling interest in the U.S. wireless carrier. SoftBank also is a reseller of Google Apps.
The carrier will begin selling Google Apps in mid-August.
