American treasure John Legend released a stunning music video to his song "You & I (Nobody in the World)" on Thursday.
"You & I" isn't unlike the most popular songs in Legend's discography: it's romantic, Legend's vocals soar, and it feels like it was written from a place of deep honesty. But the star here is the song's music video, which features all types of women — his wife Chrissy Teigen, Laverne Cox, and stand-up comic Tig Notaro are some that I recognized — simply posing in front of a mirror:
"You fix your make up, just so / Guess you don’t know, that your beautiful. / Try on every dress that you own," Legend sings.
The video is reminiscent of Christina Aguilera's "Beautiful" and hints on the sentiments driven home by "#yesallwomen" — it's a declaration to the audience that these women, all women, are beautiful, and each woman has a story, sometimes very painful ones, that we don't see.
