Former Skype head and Microsoft executive Tony Bates has taken a new post as president and board member of video camera maker GoPro.
“GoPro represents everything that excites me in a company — incredible products, compelling content, a world-renowned brand and above all, amazing people who make it happen,” Bates said in a statement. He will report to GoPro founder and CEO Nicholas Woodman.
Bates was among the first Microsoft executives to depart following the appointment of Satya Nadella as Microsoft CEO earlier this year. Bates had been an executive VP at Microsoft, leading business development efforts.
GoPro last month filed papers with the Securities and Exchange Commission to hold an initial public offering.

We're here to shed some clarity
One of our core beliefs here at Vox is that everyone needs and deserves access to the information that helps them understand the world, regardless of whether they can pay for a subscription. We’re so grateful that we’re on track to hit 85,000 contributions to the Vox Contributions program before the end of the year, which in turn helps us keep this work free. We need to add 2,500 contributions this month to hit that goal.
