While Firefox OS remains targeted at first-time smartphone buyers overseas, China’s ZTE said Thursday it will start selling a model in the U.S. via eBay.
The ZTE Open C is listed for the “Buy It Now” price of $99.99.
Mozilla has talked about eventually bringing the phone to the U.S. via a carrier and Sprint was listed as among its partners, though the carrier has not suggested a time frame for offering a Firefox OS device.
The company’s main priority has been driving smartphones to even lower price points; it discussed plans at Mobile World Congress for a $25 Firefox OS-based phone.
ZTE said it is also selling the device on eBay in the United Kingdom, Germany, Russia and more than 20 other European countries. The phone features a 4-inch screen, the latest version of the Mozilla operating system and a 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm chip.
