Why should Apple and Samsung have all the fun?

It’s a common sentiment in the smartphone business, with a variety of companies continuing to try to crack the high end of the market. It’s a group that includes names like Sony and HTC, but also others, including China’s Huawei.

On Wednesday, Huawei introduced its latest flagship, the Ascend P7. At a price of 449 euros ($625), Huawei will find itself competing head-on with the likes of the Galaxy S5 and iPhone.

The phone has high-end features, including a five-inch screen, slim design and a quad-core chip (though not the Qualcomm one found in most high-end LTE devices.)

The new Ascend packs plenty of photo-taking prowess, including a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera and an eight-megapixel front camera for some seriously high-res selfies.

Although not a huge name in the U.S. market, Huawei is the world’s third-largest smartphone maker.

The company has largely abandoned its plans to sell network gear in the U.S., but continues to see the U.S. market as a worthy, if difficult, smartphone opportunity.

The Ascend is expected to go on sale in a number of markets in Europe, Asia and the Middle East this month, with other parts of the world to follow.
