Spotify Buys Music Data Startup The Echo Nest

Streaming music service Spotify has bought The Echo Nest, a startup that provides music data to companies including Spotify. Echo Nest had previously raised $25 million, and while it says it will “continue to honor its obligations” with customers that compete with Spotify, like Rdio, it’s reasonable to expect that some of those deals will expire sooner than later.
